All that to say: if you can take 5 minutes to call your representative's office this week to oppose any/all of the particularly heinous bills being considered, it will be 5 minutes well spent that makes more of an impact than many of us realize!

At this point I think I've called my rep's office enough times that the interns are recognizing my voice lol. And each and every time they have been nothing but respectful, professional, and the entire process has taken me less than 5 minutes.

If you haven't called your reps in the past because you've been too afraid, I hope this can help demystify the process for you a little bit. If you haven't called because you feel like it doesn't work, I hope you reconsider. It's a lot less scary than you think it will be, and it makes a difference.

Those numbers impact the choices your representative makes because it affects their ability to be reelected among other things. I won't pretend I'm an expert, but there is a reason why there is such a push to call your reps all the time. It's because it is a proven method that works.

And for anyone who feels like this isn't actually something that can affect change, it actually does! Every single call made to a representative's office has to be noted and those numbers are presented to your representative.
