The latest chess move in the mass firing of federal employees. (Guess who the pawns are?) A separate order requiring that many of the 16,000 fired probationary workers be rehired remains in place--for now.

Supreme Court Pauses Ruling Requiring Rehiring of 16,000 Probationary Workers
A federal judge in California had ordered the Trump administration to rehire government employees fired as part of its efforts to slash the federal work force.

I wrote about the ripple effects of the federal freeze and the firing of federal employees. My story focuses on the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. The scenario is playing out everywhere.

I always love writing about beavers. Rep. Pam Marsh said it best: "Beavers are cute and interesting, but they are also really effective operators on the landscape."

Good news: Merit Systems Protection Board chair ordered 5,700 USDA employees be (temporarily) rehired.

Bad news: Trump is trying to fire that board chair.

Good news: U.S. District judge says he can't.

To be continued, no doubt.

The MERIT Act, introduced by House Democrats, would mandate that the probationary federal workers fired by DOGE be rehired--with back pay.

Um, who's out of their lane here? Speaker Mike J agrees with Vance that “judges aren't allowed to control the executive's legitimate power.”

Seems they've both forgotten it's not the Executive Branch's job to legislate. Oh, right...Congressional Republicans have forgotten that, too.

I was just told that I have to remove “climate” from the title of an ongoing grant if I want to keep it. And publications from that grant cannot include “climate” and other forbidden words. I can’t believe I’m writing this from the United States of America. #AcademicSky
