I wonder if Bill Gates would like to revise his climate memo in light of what’s happening the people living in Jamaica and Cuba.

Umm… it feels like David Shor literally disdains the people he’s trying to research? Last time I felt this vibe of utter derision for a group of people you’re trying to write about was… Hillbilly Elegy.

Please get some people into politics who actually want to talk to human beings, not cross tabs.

Exhausting to read/listen to so much intellectualization of voter sentiment when you could literally learn the same thing by just hitting the streets and putting a face to a feeling. This hyper intellectual approach - EK’s brand, ironically - is why liberal “elites” remain so sorely out of touch.

I need elected Dems and the donor class to remember the moment when this happened.

The vibe shift in the culture.
The mindset shift.

Seriously, let yourself embody this moment…

I’ve had so many 1:1 convos over the last week about the crickets coming from this industry. After the Oscars, something finally snapped and I posted these IG stories. A friend slid into my DMs to ask why it feels like we are a silent majority - why people are “upset but are apathetic in action”…

This moment in time is reminding me of another story that became an iconic Hollywood movie...

CABARET! Adapted from the novel 'Goodbye to Berlin' by Christopher Isherwood. Famously a story about **the end of the Weimar Republic**

Not me comparing Hollywood agencies to Congress 😂 just trying to speak the language of the industry I’m trying to reach! We use a lot of “comps” in this town…

Cultural industries like Hollywood don’t exist just anywhere - they are beneficiaries of a democracy. There’s a reason why China’s film industry is basically state propaganda.

I also screenshotted and annotated this from Reporters without Borders. (One thing I wish Bluesky had is the ability to annotate screenshots to make it easier for free association!)

The boiling frog syndrome of what is happening to our media ecosystems has already played out in Hungary, albeit at a much smaller scale.

The closest comp is Hungary’s media ecosystem, which I learned about last summer thanks to @zackbeauchamp.bsky.social’s book THE REACTIONARY SPIRIT. I’ve recommended it multiple times to my IG followers :)

As we head into Oscars Sunday - I’m sharing some of the IG stories I posted this week. Many of my followers on IG are colleagues & friends from the industry I came up in (Hollywood), which is why I’m trying to reach them where they’re at. Every media worker needs to understand what’s at stake.
