Question to lawyer friends. Would MUP’s axing of #meanjin on ‘purely financial reasons’ - and, according to the press, refusing to hand it over to potential successors - be cause to challenge its DGR status, on account of prioritising profit motives over its duty to public interest? Just wondering…

I would love to read a #meanjin piece reflecting on the boardroom discussions that led to the decision to close meanjin. It would have a lot to teach us about the pressures of governance. It might even build empathy. Of course, part of that fantasy is the prospect of a future meanjin to publish it.

I remember puzzling conversations on tax brackets as a child, painting an absurd exploitative system. Then realised, most of those fears echoed in my family were based on ignorance. Wondering - how might we build generalised, in-depth tax literacy, so we can have better informed public debates??

Still undecided - is Bluesky giving nostalgic joy, or hopeful joy?? In any case, it’s on the joy spectrum. I’ll take that for now 🤪.
