When I draft, it takes me a bit before the characters start to feel like real people to me. So while there's still a long ways to go on Book 3, my MCs finally feel like they're taking on lives of their own, so it felt appropriate to share a little snippet from the #wip

But this poem doesn't hum. Marlowe whispers its iambs again and again, prodding the verse to awaken; but the words hang limp and dissipate without even the thrum of nascent magic. Dead. Which never happens when Marlowe recites or pens poetry. They've not only put their eight years in at Radley, but they are - without any hint of narcissism - an undeniable genius. If they can't rouse the magic from a poem, then the poem must be defective. Scratches of ink on paper to either serve as spare kindling for a fire or mindless gibberish to amuse the normie world. My 2024 #writingwrapped 🎉 I began the year certain I'd never escape the querying trenches, and I remember uncontrollably shaking when I got offers of rep and publication within days of each other. I'm so ready (and terrified) to start 2025 by going on sub with book 2 and finishing book 3 ❤️
