“Biology Rising: Freshwater Family” the immersive version. @ericbraman.bsky.social and I made made a public art installation based on my original monotypes on circles sculpture, with our poems for the city of Eugene, OR. It was fun to walk through! #installationart #mixedmedia #printmaking #sciart

Documenting my #wire vessels before they head off to For Artsake gallery in Newport, OR. I’ve really enjoyed making them and can’t wait to see how they display them. So many shadows yet to be discovered! Most of these are large, 24” in diameter or so #sciart #sculpture #art #traditionalart #shadows

We found a red-legged frog egg mass and a salamander egg mass in this pond that’s being restored! Plus I got to hang out with scientists. Thanks #umpquawatershed #biology #botany #sciart #science

I met the #scientists: lucky me, I found the good people at Umpqua Watershed this week. They loaned me a microscope to view some volvox from the North Umpqua River, invited me to muck about in a pond to count salamanders, and figure out an art installation for Earth Day, too. #biology #sciart #art

Here is a current iteration of my “Biology Rising” installation which explores Volvox, the freshwater algae that forms daughter colonies inside their mother cells and collaborate to survive. This column form glows at night. Made of #monotypes on tissue paper, dipped in beeswax. #sciart #biology

Right? It’s quite different when I stand it up, I like it better in its side. Here it is standing up:

This thread is so great, thank you so much for sharing! And in case you’re interested, here’s the new iteration of the “BiologyRising” installation, I made it into a column and lit it from below, as if it’s moving up to the sun:

I spotted this glorious limb from a madrone tree weeks ago on the side of the twisty road that snakes its way along the ridge of the river, up to my house. It’s in a precarious spot for cars, so I haven’t stopped, but today I got brave and grabbed it! #sciart #trees #sculpture #art #botany #nature

#Biology Rising: My version of volvox, the freshwater algae where daughter colonies live inside their mother cells and work together to move towards the light to survive. We are in a volvox moment, now. These are hand printed monotypes on sewing patterns, dipped in beeswax. #sciart #STEAM #art

I made this last summer in #jeanshin’s Creative Reuse sculpture workshop at Anderson Ranch in Aspen. It’s 24” H, but I hope to make it huge someday for outdoors. My “origins” installation makes me think of the beginning of life emerging from the deep. I’m using hand twisted baling wire for these “seed pod” shapes, and hand printed the green background and spheres inside on a gel pad. Wonderful shadows at twilight! #sciart #art #printmaking #installationart

Hello new art friends! I’m making all kinds of crazy #sciart and happy to be here. I use gel pads for printing on paper and fabric, and incorporate it into sculpture with twisted wire. #artshare #printmaking #gelliprint #sculpture #installationart

“Biology Rising” in my solarium made of hundreds of hand-pulled monotypes on tissue paper, dipped in beeswax. Reminds me of Volvox, freshwater algae that form daughter colonies in their mother cells, and collaborate to move towards the light to survive #sculpture #installationart #science #STEM #art
