That's how I want to write -- with warmth and connection, grounded in the heart of how people actually feel and act. Not just one thing happening after another. I want my writing to have the wild night of the storm and the kitchen full of love and anxiety and four different kinds of sandwiches.

It's all still there. The Murry's kitchen, the storm, the cocoa and liverwurst-and-cream-cheese sandwiches. Mrs. Whatsit and her boots full of rain. Fortinbras under the table. It's all still there for me to come back to, and for my kid.

There's a retired librarian on my block who gives out books along with Halloween candy. Last night my 8yo daughter came down her porch steps clutching a copy of A Wrinkle In Time. We started reading it together last night before bed, and more this morning before school.
