I’m learning so much about Texas plants and pollinators at the #NPSOT Spring Symposium. I could listen to Wizzie Brown talk about cool bugs all day. Good thing she has a podcast: Bugs by the Yard! #2025npsotspring

In a weekly German conversation group, our theme has been the election results in Germany. One participant had little to say other than they don’t follow politics in Germany or the USA. Others encouraged her to let this be the beginning of her following what’s happening politically. It’s important.

Fund our amazing Texas public schools!!! Support our school children. Vouchers would harm the future for our students and schools. I’m joining other Texas public school families as part of the Texas PTA to advocate for public schools today at the Texas state capitol. #TXPTARally25

Yesterday I watched the birds in my backyard through a slightly opened window. Merlin app helped me spot two Yellow rumped warblers. Their behinds were definitely bright yellow! Those birds will be breeding in Canada!! 🇨🇦 Migrating species are so mind-blowing with their travels.

I went for a quick walk around the block between meetings. It’s cloudy and mild weather today and the birds are out. The Merlin phone app helped me spot Cedar Waxwings up in a tree! They are easy to see with no leaves to hide in. They like to hang out together in a group.

I spotted a bird standing in my future pocket prairie and IDed it via the Merlin app, step by step as it was not singing. Merlin congratulated ME for finding a Dark-eyed Junco. But did I? No. It was my cat, going crazy at the window, who truly found that guy. Get the app and start finding birds! 🐦‍⬛

I started using the @cornellbirds.bsky.social Merlin app to identify bird calls. Today I got some binoculars out and SAW cedar waxwings from my front yard! Also heard, then saw the Red “bellied” woodpecker 🐦‍⬛ and merlin told me the id when it finally sang! This app is turning me into a birder.

I just certified my yard as a @nationalwildlife.bsky.social wildlife habitat! I’ve worked so hard adding lots of native Texas plants. I’ve seen Monarchs, salt marsh moths, caterpillars, a raccoon, and foxes. Birds have enjoyed the water and American Beautyberry. PS - NWF is an amazing organization!

It’s Frostweed Day in Austin!! When the weather is well below freezing, the sap explodes into ice sculptures. This Texas native plant is important for Monarch’s fall migration to Mexico as that is when it blooms. Frostweed likes a little sun and a little shade. #NPSOT #NPSOTAustin #nativeplants
