I’m very encouraged seeing the great work of this village development committee from Machilika village in Monkey Bay, Malawi.

These saplings will be planted out soon, once the rains arrive.

Well done Mbedza team.

The children’s reading hut at Mbedza’s Centre is now complete. This initiative was introduced to provide a space where children can read and learn freely. The young readers enjoy reading aloud, a practice that was often disruptive to adults using the main library, who prefer a quieter environment.

Two amazing people - Fyson and Bainathu. Fyson began his journey as a HIV/AIDS counsellor in 2008 and Bainatu joined Mbedza in 2019. Conversations about HIV/AIDS have become less taboo and more normalized in communities.

We are aiming to create a HIV free youth.

A recent survey showed many families had low harvest yields due to poor rains and the high cost of fertilizer. To improve food resilience we have introduced the Tiyeni method. Tiyeni offers a solution through the use of compost/manure.

Chief Namakhwawa says it will help people fight hunger.

Songani Center remains a safe space for women in sex work, offering essential health services. A beneficiary shared how access to condoms has helped her stay HIV-negative. “Sometimes men offer more for unprotected sex,” she said, “but the counseling I receive helps me make better choices.”

We're excited to share the success of our recent outreach program at Sunuzi Market, a new location to our community services! Our counselors provided HIV testing and counseling to many people from different communities.

In late 2024 with help from Sustainable Global Gardens we trained 20 households in the Tiyeni method.

No fertiliser is used saving households thousands of kwacha. Big smiles at harvest time and hope that a more sustainable future is possible.

For communities in rural Malawi life is challenging. Harvests have been poor as a result of cyclones, erratic rains and inflation making fertiliser unaffordable. They show such resilience and the ability to be joyful. We are grateful for the example. Here was our welcome to Kagwa village last week.

Tree growth in Malawi is fast! These Bluegum trees were planted in January 2022. Mbedza’s Project Manager will be training the community here at Mbewe village in sustainable wood cropping.
