Australian scientific illustrator and museum technician. Love anything with bones on the inside, some things with bones on the outside, and things with feathers twice as much.
Honestly forgot Bluesky existed for a bit there, but I’m back with some VERY cute Gang-gangs I hung out with on Thursday

Didn’t expect to see my illustrations while scrolling Bluesky, what a nice surprise!

One of several Emperor Gum Moths we turned up during a short impromptu light trapping session last night! Super cool to see them, even if most were a bit ratty.

The #frog chorus at home is INSANE following a few days of heavy rain. Still learning my local frogs but I can pick out at least 4sp from this recording - we clocked them at 84db! (Blank video - sound on!)

What’s up with google now showing shitty, inaccurate, AI-generated birds as the main image in search?

Seven years since I was on Macca. Where does the time go!? Time to head south again!

Delighted to see that the local #peregrinefalcons have fledged both their chicks!

This pair nested beside a large lake full of assorted waterfowl. They’re probably the best-fed peregrine fledglings in the state.

I’ve been spending the evening uploading old eBird lists and editing photos - here’s a Common Diving-petrel shot I was really stoked with from last winter! Can’t wait to get back out to sea next year.

Desperately trying to convince myself that what I post here Really Doesn’t Matter. My instagram has been too curated for far too long, and I forgot that sketches might be allowed. #thornbill #sketching

A rainy afternoon spent pinning a couple of #moth captures from recent light-trapping sessions at home.

Highlight of a recent banding trip out west was catching a bunch of Spiny-cheeked Honeyeaters - these things are sharp at every end! Worth all the puncture wounds 🥲

With a hot Aussie summer imminent, keep an eye out for unexpected guests! This #echidna spent a while taking advantage of the shade under our car a few days ago. A good reminder to do a quick check before driving off.

Western Shriketit

I painted this one from a specimen in prep at the Australian National Wildlife Collection, on paper made from recycled specimen tags from the Australian National Insect Collection, for @confuzzledpigeon.bsky.social’s show “Collected Works” in 2022.

A recent light-trapping session on our block. Nothing like spitting out hapless termites while tightening a rope sagging under the weight of 10,000 beetles!

Well, I never used Twitter and I’ve grown to hate Facebook and Instagram, but this one ought to be better right? See how we go I guess! Here’s an albatross.
