Great question! As you point out, you can't do it directly. We run many simpler experiments that can be verified and patch them together to make a projection into the regime that is beyond classical. Our 2019 paper is a good reference www.nature.com/articles/s41...

We don't think it's anything insurmountable, but not ready to say anything concrete yet. That said, it's a fun and interesting challenge to be working in a regime where it's hard to get error statistics.
