I'm a yoga teacher living in Weehawken, NJ, with my partner, Phil Kapp and our cat Emmy Lou. I love reading, being out in nature, plays and travel. I'm concerned about the environment and the current administration. I long for harmony among us.

Thomas Paine wrote, “There are persons, too, who see not the full extent of the evil which threatens them; they solace themselves with hopes that the enemy, if he succeed, will be merciful. It is the madness of folly, to expect mercy from those who have refused to do justice.”

“Nothing matters other than the question of whether or not we let the billionaires destroy our democracy,” he said. “There’s a ticking time bomb inside our body politic right now. It’s very possible this thing could be completely rigged by the summer or fall of this year.”--Chris Murphy

Yesterday hundreds of thousands marched in protest against Trump’s ongoing coup. Coverage in major media was subdued (at best), non-existent (at worst). The Times said “thousands” attended the protests; one reader estimated there were 50,000 protesters in Manhattan alone.

On Wednesday Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent met with Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky and offered U.S. support for Ukraine in exchange for half the country’s mineral resources. The offer did not contain guarantees for future support, and Zelensky rejected it.

Singer-songwriter Victoria Canal played the Kennedy center and, at the end of her set, donned an “Anti-Trump AF” shirt. She got huge applause, and her set broke the record for highest viewership of any Kennedy Center livestream. She also gave 100% of her fee to a trans rights org.

In 1976, President Gerald Ford officially recognized February 1 as the first day of Black History Month, asking the public to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.”--Heather Cox Richardson

What I felt during my final year at the Times was a push toward blandness, toward avoiding saying anything too directly in a way that might get some people (particularly on the right) riled up. I guess my question is, if those are the ground rules, why even bother having an opinion section?

Jim Acosta's parting words on CNN: "One final message: Don’t give into the lies. Don’t give into the fear. Hold onto the truth and to hope. Even if you have to get out your phone, record that message: I will not give in to the lies. I will not give into the fear. Post it on your social media.”

Phil and I are feeling sad that we watched the last episode of Ted Lasso. We loved how human and real the characters are, and the engaging twists and turns.

Any recommendations for a good show on Netflix or Apple?
