Don’t just say DEI as if it’s a bad word. Spell it out.

Say diversity, which is the lifeblood of American society & culture & innovation.

Say equity, which a just society should pursue.

Say inclusion, because decent people believe in increasing belonging, not isolating people who are different.

A question into the big blue sky. Why is doing the right thing and acting with integrity and kindness “left wing” and “woke” ? What does that say about humanity?

Watched Te Herenga Waka Victoria University graduation on livestream for my arts graduate son, Chancellor John Allen gave THE most animated speech valuing the humanities. Fists pumping and trencher almost flying off his head. Best thing I’ve seen in weeks.

Excellent analysis of the consequences of 'prioritising' NZ's one blue skies fund. Without diversity of excellent research in all fields, how can we hope to rise to future challenges? We become a Round-up-sprayed monoculture of short-term low gain ideas.

Delighted to share Anastasia Labudina's PhD research - a really interesting story on "amount" versus "flavour" of cohesin in zebrafish development

Cohesin composition and dosage independently affect early development in zebrafish

It's not a great viz from me, but by my rough calculations all the major grants are now 100s of $1000s behind where they were.
