The piano Andre 3000 carried on his back at the Met Gala reminded me of the piano carried on the back of an itinerant musician in August Wilson's "The Piano Lesson." www.pbs.org/wnet/america...

Friday catblogging: It’s nice to plant a pot of cat grasses for your feline friend (no catnip in this as it makes them woozy).

The pieces are best seen in person. Thank you, Philip Guston.

I first saw Philip Guston's "Hoods" series at an exhibit at SFMOMA when I was just out of high school. I'd never seen art like that.

Here's "Edge of Town,"" a 1969 painting from Philip Guston's genius "Hoods" series. To me, now, it shows Donald and his cohorts moving around, looking for trouble. I also see Jan 6 rioters heading to D.C. in 2021. It is the most memorable painting in the series for me. www.moma.org/collection/w...

When I was in college, I saw a series of paintings by Philip Guston at SFMOMA. These great works became a lifelong interest. His disturbing "hoods" paintings have morphed again for me, as great art does, to illuminating the construction/mob life Donald was born into, and that his father encouraged.
