This sucks, I feel for the Affinity fans, but I am enjoying the wave of press releases like this that desperately try to pretend the garbage AI features they started developing at peak AI craze were actually TOTALLY designed with recent seething backlash in mind.

Love the implication that you aren’t putting out enough entry-level Bin Laden talking points. Too much high-level jargon, unwelcoming to more casual Bin Laden fans.

I don’t mean to be like “suggestion: get a chair you like!”, but in my experience the chairs everyone else recommended just felt “off” to me and I think it is a person by person thing. But those two companies are good!

I really like the Herman Miller Celle (Aeron just never felt right to me), but my strongest suggestion is to find an office furniture reseller near you so you can go try out a bunch of options. I’d say a used Herman Miller or Steelcase of some sort will probably work for you!

LMAO yep yep

This is not to say I like or respect Apple, just that genAI tools suck on a fundamental level, and it feels like the whole tech world was banking on Apple "getting it right" to prove this isn't a bubble.

Fun fact, for anyone who doesn’t know, this is the original purpose of Wingdings! A separate font file was a very effective way to provide a library of icons and other useful images before the average word processor could handle image files well.

LMAO yeah that is an apt comparison 😂 I’ll come clean and say I adore tunic but I just coincidentally didn’t hate the combat, I can’t deny that it’s totally mismatched to the actual main appeal of the game

That makes a ton of sense! That feeling of struggling to get every edge and fighting for scraps works for me in dark souls but I don’t want every game to feel like that
May 9, 2025 at 4:22 PM
Ohhhh absolutely true, the souls template has become ubiquitous enough that it’s inconspicuous. Like, this really hit me when I played tunic, a game that isn’t really about its combat, but still has bonfires and flasks and bloodstains because those are just videogames now.

Like part of me kinda yearns for the days when people just said action game instead of saying it's a hack and slash JRPG with some soulslike elements or whatever. But maybe things just felt less granular because I was younger and knew less, IDK.

It feels a bit antiquated almost. I think of either a vaguely character action game shaped thing, or like, an Atari game. I'd say it's not really a genre but the term is useful as a broad way of describing what the central appeal of a game is, without having to actually get into the weeds of genre.

Genuinely invigorating to see innovation in the “guy with limbs where they shouldn’t be” space
February 7, 2025 at 6:53 PM
Yeah, this often coincides for me with realizing that I’m starting to fall asleep and then waking up as a result :/ I’ve sort of assumed this was normal my whole life but idk

Totally! Extraneous features also have a very real negative effect on my playthrough because how should I know it’s extraneous? I’m gonna try to engage with say, a bad crafting system, assuming it matters, and only conclude after wasting lots of time that “it’s optional.”

The subject is our new(ish) cat Blueberry Bunny 💙💙💙 She is very sweet and also an anxious mess

Pokémon is a great example bc those games are purposefully not mechanically rigorous; they are about collecting and enjoying dudes. The mechanics are there to serve that feeling. This is also tough to answer briefly because I think charm actually means several separate things based on context
