Kind of counterintuitive to me, but the series laid out like this makes me think that a higher pace leads to less passes. My brain is primed to think “more pace, more possessions, more offensive stats,” but I suppose more possessions mean shorter possessions which means less passes per possession.

@robzacny.bsky.social @patrickklepek.bsky.social As more casual NBA fans, I’m curious if you feel somewhat lost/blindsided by this Finals matchup due to the NBA playing the old hits for the past several years instead of priming fans for the new, good stars and teams. Looking forward to Sports!

Tough for ratings fans, great for basketball fans

…I think if luka, lebron, or jokic had this same collection of shooters we would not be seeing the shooting dip to this degree. Conversely, if we had cam Johnson I think his numbers would look worse than expected because we would still struggle to get him good looks

It isn’t either/or - we see they are all over Isaiah Joe when he comes in the game and that is not opening the lane up like it should in theory. That makes me think our leaders need to be better about diagnosing and attacking the defense.
May 16, 2025 at 3:32 PM
FWIW - I think they have been better then last year in this regard, but they still have a ways to go.
May 16, 2025 at 3:09 PM
The problem is we need to generate better looks against that defense. Even though we are getting okay shots, we aren’t consistently generating the quality of shot we should be against this defense. We need growth there from sga, dub, and Chet more than we need another shooter.
May 16, 2025 at 3:09 PM
I think this is mistaking a symptom for the cause. We have had trouble because teams are loading up to take away SGA drives, not because we don’t have shooters but because giving shai his lanes is death. I don’t think Cam Johnson on this team would change that strategy.

It does hurt his case when the other contender led his team past even higher expectations
April 17, 2025 at 12:47 AM
I do think Cade with Jokics numbers would fare better, but that’s bc the narrative of him turning around one of the worst teams ever would be a strong one. Denver underperformed relative to expectations this year and while no one blames jokic…
April 17, 2025 at 12:47 AM
Narrative is a big factor, and Russ was the scoring champ and averaged a triple double when that was seen as impossible, and dragged the thunder above preseason expectations. Even still, it was close between him and Harden, whose team was better but not as dominant as SGAs Thunder.
April 17, 2025 at 12:47 AM
A better comp would be “if Cade Cunningham put up this line this year on that same pistons team with their record, would he win MVP?” And I think he’d get plenty of votes (like jokic will), but would still bet it would go to shai because of the numbers and wins
April 17, 2025 at 12:16 AM
Choosing one of the other 3 dominant teams this year isn’t really a fair comparison since a large part of Shai’s case is numbers + wins. If shai right now was putting up Jokic line he would be unanimous MVP because of the numbers and wins.

My favorite thing about the Finch quote is that you can take it literally and he’s just saying he and/or the wolves are soft. He doesn’t say the thunder get away with fouling, he said they foul, which is true. Maybe the fouls just hurt and that’s not very fun.
February 26, 2025 at 6:06 PM
That would be true if every game played had one team with a 24+ point 4th quarter lead. I would like to know the last time it happened though rather than “x straight games”

Ironic that all these replies assume he’s a trump voter bc he’s from WV and talks with an accent. Caller showing 10x more media literacy and savviness than these replies talking down on him.

or lakers on national tv because they have tuned out.
February 11, 2025 at 7:23 PM
Instead, the NBA strategy is to try their best to promote storylines for teams that are no longer the best the league has to offer. Also, they have made it incredibly hard to watch your local team, and when casual local fans can’t watch their team, they won’t be engaged enough to watch the warriors
February 11, 2025 at 7:23 PM
The best teams in the league right now are the Thunder and the Cavs, two young teams with unique identities and very likeable personalities. The NFL would be all over them like they are the Chiefs.
February 11, 2025 at 7:23 PM
I think the NBA’s biggest problem is a simple and dumb one: they do not market their best teams. In chasing ratings, they put the lakers and warriors in the national tv slots, where casual fans get to tune in and watch them get beat by a rotating cast of fine teams and players.

I understand frustration, but we got where we are off an organizational approach that prioritizes development and playing outside of comfort zones. Why would we expect coach to abandon that to chase a regular season win where both rosters are decimated and we have a huge lead in the west
