#Secular (aka #nonreligious) were the second largest cohort in NYC and voted big for @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social.

At a 76% clip, secular voters delivered 1/3 of the Mamdani vote in NYC.

Even with the large numbers of undecided and non-voters Democrats have a 4:1 advantage in the generic ballot among the #secular and a 2:1 advantage among Latino Catholics. Among Latino protestants Republicans hold a smaller advantage of 1.5:1.

These 3 groups have their partisan leanings. Two of them: the #secular and #Latino Catholics lean DEM and have voted for Democrats in most cycles, while Latino Protestants have been historically a swing vote that has shifted toward the right in recent elections.

The latest AP/NORC poll shows that whatever gains the GOP, and more specifically, Trump, made with #Latinos are vanishing quickly. It feels like “deja vu all over again”

FIVE: Even though #secular adults express disapproval with Trump, only 42% have a favorable view of the Democratic Party. Fewer than one in five (19%) Secular adults have a favorable opinion of the GOP

SECOND: A majority of US adults (56%) agree that Trump “is a dangerous dictator whose power should be limited before he destroys American democracy.” However, among the secular population, three-quarters (75%) agree (62% strongly agree)

Earlier this week @prri.org released its latest #AmericanValuesSurvey. Among the wealth of information in the report, I want to focus on five points highlighting what I call the #secular #resistance.

One of the reasons I stopped attending baseball games for a long time was to avoid listening to that awful song. Good for Benito!

Third chart: #nonreligious #Latino adults are still very young. In 2007 52% were under the age of 35, in 2024 55% were born in or after 1990.

#Latino Catholics are interesting. The account for a plurality of the Latino vote. What determined the margin of victory for Harris among Latinos was her share among Catholics. She lost them in the NEP and lost the Latino vote, won 61% in the CES and had her best margin

Looking at the Democrats' 2024 share of the #Latino vote by religious ID shows two consistent patterns: 70%+ #secular support, and 30-ish% Protestant support. Meaning, Harris won secular Latinos handily and lost Protestants.

The surveys find that Democrats (Harris) won the overall #Latino vote, but that the GOP (Trump) gained substantially. Harris' margin ranges from +5 points (NEP) to +18 (CES); these margins are still historically low. All three polls agree that the GOP got at least 40%
