The curved lines in the map below are isogones (lines of constant magnetic declination), drawn by a Potuguese oceanographer in 1585 based on data collected by ships. It is the oldest known depiction of the earth's magnetic field. Interesting fact I learned while attending #EQTC2024 in Lisbon.
