And it is a tortoise that barely moves from any patch it is in, terribly slow coloniser, so trapped in those pockets of chalk grassland.

Thanks! So that is likely to be G alboviscidus? Now I'm even more sorry I did not keep the specimen Must visit the site again soon on the off-chance another has emerged.

Yes but the section before the boardwalk starts is a bit rough and of course the boardwalk stops at the end of the city council owned land at the south end of the fen. From then on the path is very muddy at the moment.
