While it’s more of a thriller/drama, I highly recommend checking out The North Water as well - with the content warning that it depicts the horrors of Victorian whaling in all its gory detail

They are actually working on a third series, but yes season 2 was such a massive disappointment despite a great premise

I actually think the mini-series is a big improvement on the book, because it excises a lot of the weird racism, homophobia, misogyny and general misanthropy of the original novel (as in, yes the characters in the story are bigots, but you can really tell Simmons is as well)

He did work on the first series of Motherland as part of a larger writing team, but the madness started soon after and he was booted off, at which point the show actually improved

He’s upset about all those birds he keeps losing track of after he’s shot them

You have such good taste it’s insane
