I have bigger fish to fry mental health-wise, like my utter inability to climb out of bed before 11:00 AM regardless of when I go to sleep, but one of these days me and myself are gonna have a real serious talk about how much brain power we spend thinking about dumb horny sexy videogames.

DOA7 can and should still be a horny sexy game full of hot chicks and hunky dudes.
And they can and SHOULD understand that "hot chicks and hunky dudes" means so, SO much more nowadays than what it used to.
And they should give Mila biceps.
End of rant.

Meanwhile, DOA has a character who's a genius genetic scientist who moonlights as a high-flying luchadora and all of that goes out the window the moment they put her in a bikini because she just gets slotted into the same narrow box of sexiness that they only started to peek out of 19 years later.

Chun-Li gets to have jiggly thunderthighs and a lovingly rendered butt because Capcom's designers have made all of that a unique part of her character that sits alongside all the other, non-horny parts of it.
And even if there are other sexy girls in SF, nobody is sexy exactly like Chun-Li.

On top of all this, I do think there's been a mostly welcome shift in how sexiness is built and received since the 2000s. The definition of what's considered sexy has broadened considerably, and in a world where people are going "AWOOGA!" over women like Rhea Ripley or Willow Nightingale...

(I don't like Marie Rose or the implications of her popularity, but man, if you want a clear demonstration of the importance of variety, just look at how she and Honoka *immediately* took over as the faces of DOA, in no small part by virtue of not being The Exact Same Girl Body Again)

If variety is the spice of life, then DOA's brand of horniness is a chicken breast with a sprinkle of salt over it. It's not that everyone's sexy, it's that everyone's sexy *in the same ways.*
It took them decades to introduce a single different female bodytype and when they did, it was, well...

DOA has varied female characters too, but they're not nearly varied enough as SF's (especially in bodytypes), and are very quickly reduced to sexy lounging dolls by their games.
DOAX in particular will have a sadistic international assassin and a boisterous pro wrestler act basically the same way.

Going back to SF6, since that's the comparison most people make these days, something the series has only gotten better at over the years is character work.
Cammy & Chun-Li are very hot women, but they don't talk, move nor dress the same. They have distinct personalities, interests, even bodytypes.

It's the reduction that really sticks in my craw. DOAX reduces its cast of characters to a handful of brain-numbingly repetitive lines of dialogue, a bunch of emotionless animations, and an obtuse gift system that barely qualifies as gameplay.
It's not just gooner bait, it's *bad* gooner bait.

I know people have a lotta fondness for DOAX, but it's another major factor of why DOA gets that rep and other game series don't.
It reduces its characters to dress-up dolls, removes all the cool stuff Roofle talks about in lieu of tee-hee voyeuristic camp, and isn't even that fun (to me).

Same thing with Tekken, or KoF, or any other fighting game that also has a bunch of hot baddies in it.
It's one thing for your fighting game to have sexy babes in it. It's another to put out an entire side series of full-fledged games about sexy babes doing sexy things on the beach.

... they could never, ever help themselves. Even the games they tried their hardest to market as Fighting Games still had gravure DLC and microbikinis.
Sex appeal is a side element of SF6, while for DOA, it's part of its identity.
And that's not BAD. That is NOT a bad thing. But it's a difference.

Like a lot of other videos, Rooflemonger points out that SF6 is horny af too. Hell, it's horny in ways DOA never even touched, like butt jiggling.
And my problem with most people who bring that point up is that they don't actually expand on it. Why IS SF6's horniness OK while DOA remains derided?

... to the sex appeal of DOA, then tend to quickly sidestep it to focus on the gameplay. Which I think is the right instinct to have if you want people to take you seriously.
But I think it's a conversation worth having: what makes DOA's sex appeal a joke while all other fighters get a pass?

A fella over at reddit theorized that all these memorial videos they're putting out each month is a sneaky countdown to the reveal of AC8. Which, if true, means we have about... *sigh*
Eight more months to go.

As an Argentine customer support freelancer, will I still get a carrier and fighter wing? We haven't had one of those in a while and it could be a fun weekend project!

For comparison's sake:
Got me some new tail code decals so took a moment to polish and fix a few things on my Ace Combat 6 "Garuda 1" F-15E.
It's still not lore accurate, since the decals I have are not low-vis and the sizes are a bit wrong, but I'm still mostly proud of the job I did with it.
