If you haven't already, look up Cory Doctorow's essay from a year or two ago on the Enshittification of TikTok. It's a damning diagnosis of many modern platforms, especially those that benefit from paying customers on both sides of the transaction.

On this topic, I highly recommend reading "They Thought They Were Free: The Germans, 1933-1945" by Milton Mayer (1955). Mayer, a Jewish-American journalist and sociologist, goes on-the-ground with average German citizens both before the war and in the denazification aftermath in a sobering read.
