I forgot to complain about the way that Rowan showing up in Rifthold in QoS completely sucked the oxygen out of the room for Aedion's character. Aedion was basically reduced to a glorified bodyguard, simpering after Aelin because he didn't get the blood oath. I loved his dynamic with Chaol in HoF.

ALSO, I really think SJM was trying to retroactively explain herself through Chaol's POV during all his healing chapters. Maybe ToD was just her apology for the character assassination that she committed in QoS.

Chaol saved her dog! TWICE!! and she lays into him about serving the king while Rowan has literally destroyed entire cities! Anyways... I'm glad Chaol got his happy ending. Aelin can have stuffy old Rowan. The nicest thing I can say about Rowan is that he's incredibly boring.

and then suddenly in QoS, she and Chaol are absolutely horrible to each other, then Rowan shows up and she's all hot and bothered. Please. And don't get me started on the fact that she brought Rowan to Sam's grave. That speech she gave over his grave should have been just between her and Sam.

I would have been less annoyed if SJM hadn't made it clear in HoF that Aelin was still in love with Chaol and there was no romantic attraction to Rowan. She was still wearing his ring, dreaming about him while sleeping next to Rowan, couldn't imagine anyone else's body except Chaol's on hers, ETC

SJM totally changed her mind and did Chaol so dirty. QoS was a ROUGH read for me. I had to stop thinking of Aelin as the most important character in the story, and just had to hope that Chaol, Dorian and Manon would have happy endings. I love Yrene, so that probably helped. Rowan is terrible.
