The Hanky Code is a colour-coded system of signalling to others what your sexual preference and interests are. Widely used in the 1970s by gay and bisexual men. A hanky in the left pocket indicated one was a top, while on the right pocket meant bottom.

Ending off with a water lily for Pisces. I used beads in this piece to look like water droplets and sell the ripple effect I was going for to make the "stars" of the constellation.

To make the petals of the Orchid I used a technique called stumpwork that uses wire inside the embroidery to make the pieces come off of the fabric base. One of my main goals with this series as I continued with it was to try new techniques and challenge myself.

My sign! When I learned that carnations are associated with Capricorn, I had to do a green carnation (IYKYK). I also incorporated more of my linework style into this piece. This is one of the only pieces in this series I still have, along with the Scorpio one.

To challenge myself a tried out the thread-painting technique for the first time to make this Chrysanthemum, and it took way longer than expected. But it really informed the style of embroidery that I now do.

The first piece I made in the series, using embroidered roses to literally make the Libra constellation. This was an excuse to try out a new technique for roses a learned from a fellow embroider, and then turned into a whole series.

I made this one as a complement to Cancer and included a beaded sun alongside the marigold bush. With the flowers, again, in the shape of the Leo constellation.

Ruled by the moon I included a silver moon in between the blossoms of Larkspur, as well as stitching the flowers as the stars of the Cancer constellation. Which I did for many of the pieces in this series.

The twins, represented by lavender. I embroidered both Provence Lavender and Spanish Lavender, and stitched the Gemini constellation behind the flowers.

The only piece with a flower not typically used to represent the sign. But the branch of the cherry blossoms is in the shape of the Taurus constellation. I also used shibori dyeing to make the background fabric.
