I come back to this one again and again: vegetarian chicken and dumplings! You can add some Quorn chicken cubes if you like, and make sure those dumplings get plenty of herbs!

Kinda wish this book was a bit more informed by Quaker practice and a bit less by Trappist practice, but I took this pic outside an Episcopal cathedral so what do I know?

Loaded down the neighborhood kids with candy and served two different kinds of chili to some dear friends. Happy Halloween indeed!

This was a UK paper headline the day my father was born here in these United States. No wonder this is the faith I gravitated towards…

Went to evensong at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco because @jayhulmepoet.bsky.social climbed it and wrote about it, and he was not wrong about the soothing beauty of the space.

Getting even with some songs. Some guy is using the holy water in the nave to fix his hair.

Cooler months mean switching out the crystal candlesticks with the silver ones because I’m not some godless heathen who entertains with seasonally inappropriate candleware.

We reflected on the spot in the Gospel of Matthew where Jesus declares that everyone before him is “my mother and my brothers.” We discussed Psalm 121 (my favorite!), how being watched over by some other force when natal family fails offers solace. We reaffirmed our support for each other. So proud!

But our chosen ancestors have a different story. The chapel was built on the site of an earlier chapel that hosted funerals for people with AIDS, something our meetinghouse has in common. St. Thomas has also been affirming since the 1970s. I hope our chosen ancestors were proud.

Last night the queer Quakers decamped to St. Thomas Episcopal, as our meetinghouse was filled with Yom Kippur observances by the Jewish congregation that shares our space. We met in the Bishop Gene Robinson Chapel, so definitely no pressure to be queerly spiritual!

Looking forward to reading about my dear sainted husband.

And if you
1) look like Sal,
2) are roughly my age or younger,
3) are tormented,
4) have ever posed for a room-sized nude photograph,
please inquire within.

I felt summoned here. I thought of how often the number 49 pulses through queer poetry. I watched dueling vigils of queers and cops. I saw the state profane the sacred. I left the only message I could. I rode off knowing the story of this place is not yet fully written.

Queer clergy members are just one of the many violent hordes that maraud through DC unchecked, day after day. All that loving and praying. What’s this city coming to!
