We wrapped up the climate & energy session with Koroush Shirvan, an associate professor of nuclear science at MIT, by discussing what's driving demand for small modular reactors, whether we're on the cusp of a nuclear renaissance & some of the big remaining challenges for the sector. #EmTech

It was also illuminating to chat with Lucia Tian, head of advanced energy at Google, about how the company is working toward its climate goals — & how it's 24/7 approach has informed its decisions to strike deals with new & re-commissioned nuclear, enhanced geothermal & CCS plants. #EmTech

Never managed to get into the thorny topics of residential electricity demand and Hot Pockets, but still had a great conversation with @costasamaras.com on stage at #EmTech.

Thanks for coming to Cambridge to join the event!

New Yale study finds Musk's political activity cost Tesla 1M in car sales AND drove up sales for his competitors: environment.yale.edu/news/article...

It's less & less clear how the board is carrying out its fiduciary duties in keeping him on as CEO (much less in approving his wild pay package.)

Especially love this piece from @caseycrownhart.bsky.social: www.technologyreview.com/2025/10/30/1...

Come for the vivid whale necropsy scene; stay for the definitive debunking of Trump's wind turbine (not "mill"!) slander.

Gates' comments on carbon removal/offsets are interesting (not to say contradictory) in light of MSFT's heavily reliance on CDR to achieve its goals.

This is per a question @caseycrownhart.bsky.social posed to him and wrote about here: nam12.safelinks.protection.outlook.com?url=https%3A...

Not a new observation, but it remains baffling that so many publishers have collectively embraced such an ugly and terrible user experience.

(Please ignore the terribly unfair age-targeted ad.)

It’s perfectly possible that AI will help to improve clean technologies, manage grids in more efficient ways, democratize climate models and improve our understanding of the climate system.

I hope so.

That latter requires regulatory, not technical, breakthroughs — of the very sort that Wright and the Trump administration have dedicated themselves to rolling back.

"Fossil fuel-friendly" doesn't strike me as fair characterization of the argument they've laid out here.

Accidentally left my backyard gate unlocked and, instead of running off, Moxie politely knocked (nose booped) the back door until I let her inside.
