I bought a copy of this months Birdwatch Mag mainly for the Golden Years of Scilly article (which bought back many memories) I wasn’t expecting to see myself, front centre in the black cap stood behind my dad (wearing his Tank Hat) at the 1990 Black billed Cuckoo. Pic by the late George Reszeter.

@rarebirder.bsky.social the road and car park on this side of Wilstone Res is closed due to ongoing works around the Reservoir. Parking is only possible near the Cemetery and viewing the res is only possible from a track through the wood on the south side.

Red Necked Phalarope at Chetwode (Bucks) early afternoon. Not an easy place to get to as half the roads are closed due to East West Rail. Bird on EWR land but pool viewable from field standing on a fence!! Public footpath used.

@oxfordcitycouncil.bsky.social it would interesting to know what department and who decided putting a mile of lane closure in each direction on the A34 on a Saturday morning!! No evidence of any work happening just cones!! Total carnage in both directions causing endless stress and inconvenience.

It was distant but through another birders 70x Swarovski 100 the views were good. Also scope views in flight and hovering. Black Winged Kite is my BOU 550. Also saw Bittern and GWE.

21 years ago today Monday 6th September 2004 saw less than 50 mainland Twitchers connect with this first for Britain. Thankfully I flew from Glasgow with Andy Horscroft and was one of the few!! We enjoyed 45 minutes of it flying around fields near Eoropie and a brief scope view on wires. Great day!!
