I do get a bit fed up with people who litter the church grounds and dump their waste. But today I got to vent a bit of frustration - and it is the only church I know that keeps a sledge hammer with the litter pickers.

Normally sat in church is lovely and peaceful. Just now, sat in the coffee bar area, church otherwise empty, and a picture crashes off the wall.

Amongst all the drama of the Easter story, I often forget about all the mundane things that would have carried on, like as Jesus was arrested the room where the last supper was held would have been cleaned up. Today, between the Walk of Witness and vigil, we washed the towels from Maundy Thursday.

Today I am sat in my kitchen watching the birds feed - a little queue had formed with blue tits, grey tits, dunnock, robins and black birds picking up what is dropped (until a pigeon swoops in and everyone else scatters).

The Christmas Eve Feed volunteers from St Peter's, MLSS and our local MP. Midnight mass, and on Christmas Day we do it all again.

I sometimes wonder what has happened with the time, and then I am reminded that 5 years ago the church was closed to remove the asbestos in the roof, and when the roof was exposed the company went bust, and then without a roof we went into the Covid lockdown.

The church at St Peter's Highfields offers up another unusual and surprising find amongst a stack of "hidden" hymn books. This one appears to be for prisoners of war.
