So much new solar in the world tho. Surely the projections just aren't taking that in account? China and Australia in particular really increased their solar.

I agree there's a caste system, and breaking out of it is near impossible, but making do with what you have and slowly growing your reserves is the name of the game of life.

But could anyone learn this? Yes. YouTube alone has many guides and there are tons of resources to learn these skills currently available on the Internet. Nor do you need much special equipment. 2/

Do whatever you like. I would say blame is the wrong word though.

Blame implies that I am condemning you for growing up the way you did, but I don't. I do feel privileged to have learnt these skills. I am grateful that I have them, because it helps me save money and feel secure. 1/

Probably a culture difference imo. I grew up from a young age learning self sufficiency skills and how to can, preserve, and store food. I learnt to spend that on things that go farther, and to take a small percentage and put it towards storage. You're on your own up here in Canadian wilderness.

I understand where you're coming from because I was there once myself as well. But a bag of beans or lentils usually runs around 2-3$ and can store comfortably for a few months. If you try to pick up one single item each month to have some food security... It adds up over time.

Sure, but even a 2$ pack of lentils or beans to storage pantry goes a long way towards peace of mind. Most important to remember is you have to be comfortable eating it normally, so that you eat it after it's life in storage. If you don't like it, it's actually a true waste of money.

Makes sense. Not everyone is like that. Sane humans who do this regularly know there is a lot of work to ensure the food doesn't just rot on your shelves.

But I wouldn't be surprised to be able to live for a year off my food supply. Water is the more pressing concern, honestly.

Considering that my own income level qualifies me for poverty, I would be one of those people who falls into your niche of having more food than a few months, yet still in the poverty level. Granted, this is Canada and not the states, but just pointing out you're making quite the generalization.

Yep, 100%. Was curious to see what direction you were going with it.
