INFRASTRUCTURE WEEK: THE WRECKONING
Foundation world, like government contracting lends itself to a great deal of grant co-creating. There are open calls but also a lot of contracted work. The foundation or agency has a mission and a budget and you work with them to identify how your work advances their mission.

While not always true, it's always been helpful. For example, with DoD, the primary vehicle is the BAA which is vast. You have to talk to PMs to see what they're actually interested in funding.
NSF does the best job IMHO for making the process fair. But it still helps to be able to talk to PMs.

Eggs are how I discovered what salt tastes like at the age of 30. I never learned how to cook eggs. Sometimes I'd make good ones, sometimes bland. Couldn't figure out what made that delicious flavor. I tried milk, butter, bacon grease, cheese, everything. I finally figured out it was just salt.

The various ages thing is wild. We have friends ranging from their mid-20s to their 70s and it's actually nice to hang out with them as peers and friends. Not something I would have thought realistic in my 20s or early 30s.

My three year old decided it would be funny to try to cough in my mouth every time I opened it.
Why yes I took a sick day. Why do you ask?

It's a reminder that the "Great Man" view of history still disables our reading of history in the present and enables the kind of sycophancy of tyrants.

Sounds about right. One of the reasons it's hard to publish in sociology. The tyranny of "that's interesting"

This was super helpful. As an open source dev, I'd love to hear your thoughts for the other side. What do the devs need to understand about Trust and Safety?

For journalists, researchers, & others tracking the judiciary: This was a slog to get running, but I've built a data pipeline to track these rulings from court dockets. I'm making the dataset public today. It will be updated regularly. Hope you find it useful.
