UGH! I'm sorry to read this...I truly hope that your project resumes once they are forced to unfreeze by the Court or Congress.

Another thing to consider is that receptive and expressive skills do not develop along the same trajectory. I have observed many students who exhibit strong expressive skills but struggle with receptive skills, and vice versa.

How many hours of language and modality-specific contact are needed to achieve proficiency in the visual-manual modality? Do you know? (2/2)

Thank you for that and allowing us to have this conversation that helps clarifying our understanding of the important terms.

This is an interesting discussion. I see a similar definition - watch is active/engaging while view is passive/less engaging. I can’t help wonder if the sign of watch (the handshape of L - looks more passive) and the sign of viewing (the HS of 2 - looks more engaging) affect the word choice?

read/write = we make (write) and watch (read) videos.

Speak/listen = we sign (speak) in person and watch (listen) another person signing.

Maybe we need to find a more meaningful word than 'watch'.

From the National Literacy Trust in UK:

Literacy is "the ability to read, write, speak and listen in a way that lets us communicate effectively and make sense of the world."

So, ASL literacy is the ability to sign and watch in a way that lets us communicate effectively and make sense of the world

I have been thinking about the same thing! I see both pros and cons, but I think more pros—more marketing (free) = more citations. I also wonder if it is okay for people to take pictures if some data on slides has not been published yet?

I wish I could go! I will go there next year. You'll do GREAT as a facilitator. :).
