I dunno, I tend to think that since the average YouTube commenter is likely to be working class, we probably have more in common than we have differences, and that ultimately we shouldn't blame the propagandized for being propagandized to. Rather, I like to start from a place of solidarity.

I don't know that it's a strictly American thing. And I think a slightly less grim interpretation might just be that people don't want to be unpopular, they want to get along with as many other people as they can.

The scary thing to me is that, my understanding is that studies have shown people are more likely to agree with the comments on a video than the content of the video, so shit like this is depressingly effective...

Obvious! Archers!

Given that Netflix doesn't release numbers on individual shows, and people don't pay for individual shows, seems unreasonable to expect you to boycott them on the basis of one show and without an organized call to boycott. Strength of a boycott comes from organization.

And now someone has uploaded a version that wasn't filmed off a TV.

There's also the torrent link there, which is probably the fastest way to download the 60 Minutes segment on CECOT if you want to save the file locally to your computer.

I'm no expert, but isn't the "right to own property" thing a common misconception? I thought Marx was distinguishing between "private" and "personal" property, and saying that only private ownership of the means of production should be abolished?

I can only speak for myself, but I can say that discovering Epic's "free game of the week" has SIGNIFICANTLY cut down on my Steam purchases.

So you _do_ think he's a secret Nazi?

I read those old reddit posts of his and he seemed pretty fiercely anti fascist. The idea that he was also a secret Nazi all that time seems much harder for me to believe than that he just got a dumb tattoo he regretted.

I dunno man, there's a lot of history out there. I consider myself a history enthusiast too. If anything, it seems like a _good_ sign to me when people don't immediately recognize niche Nazi symbols. What's the alternative? That this is a dog whistle and he's a secret Nazi?

I thought Dems hated him. I thought that was the whole reason Janet Mills got into the race and Chuck Schumer endorsed her.

Sorry, couldn't think of anything else more interesting to say. Your campaign just gives me hope at a time when I have very little else! I'm very emotionally invested at this point!

Yeah, get it! 🎉

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see how the polling shakes out post-tattogate. Personally, as someone who isn't terminally online, I didn't know skulls were common SS imagery until literally this week, so it seems like a reasonable mistake to me, esp given his far-left reddit history.

I think if I got a vote, I'd probably vote for him just because I believe - based on his rhetoric - that he is being genuine when he says he disavows his tattoo and his old comments, but you're 💯% right that my privilege probably plays a big part in that: if he's lying, I'm not the one getting hurt
October 22, 2025 at 2:27 PM
I will however grant that it's possible he's putting up an act, pretending to be empathetic even though he's actually (still) a nazi, and that you're probably right that I'm more likely to believe he's genuine when he says he's not anymore simply because he looks like me 💯 easy case to make
October 22, 2025 at 2:21 PM
More to your point, the things I like about him are related to his empathy, which is not typically associated with masculinity (though I think it should be) like as seen in this clip of him empathizing with a heckler: youtu.be/U8Y99E2veyA

I think I would. This isn't xitter, you're not arguing with a nazi troll. I think based on your flags in your name that we'd probably agree on 99% of issues, and I'm planning on voting for Rashida Tlaib for president in 2028 if I can.
October 22, 2025 at 2:11 PM
To your original point though, you're not wrong that it's a risk, a scary one at that. I think it represents a real systemic problem that has reared itself multiple times even just recently: it should be much easier to recall representatives who've misled their constituents about their goals.
October 22, 2025 at 2:07 PM
My point is that I'm more interested in policy, and Platner has been very clear about his opposition to corporate power. Maybe Mills is too, but I can't find anything other than "safe" identity politics stuff that even conservative Democrats agree on.
October 22, 2025 at 2:06 PM
Didn't they all drop out to back Janet Mills? Or did I misunderstand some headline?
October 22, 2025 at 1:44 PM
Of course, at this point it's hard to imagine most people getting excited about Platner either, which is why I say that it seems like the damage is already done.
October 22, 2025 at 1:44 PM
Don't get me wrong, I'd still want Mills to win. Even if she were just another Joe Manchin, that's still one fewer Republican vote. I just don't see that happening though. Hard to imagine people getting excited about Janet Mills for senate 🤷
October 22, 2025 at 1:43 PM
I mean, I guess it doesn't matter what I think since I'm not in Maine, but it seems to me like the damage is already done. Mills is probably going to win the primary and get her Republican-lite ass beaten by a real Republican in the general and we'll be right back where we are with Collins...
