I put up my string of white lights as I took my Halloween lights down, because less times up and down the ladder, but I haven't turned them on yet.

I look at this and think of N.K. Jemisin's The City We Became, Staten Island siding with the destructive forces because they are scared of POC and diversity.

Five out of Five.

One of mine did the same to me yesterday, although without the totally adorable snores.

I think the MD flag is way easier for a child to remember, draw, and have it be recognizable than the many, many, 'blue field with busy seal' state flags.

Contessa is fitting.

I've been having power flickers this summer too. Enough of them to wonder if that didn't contribute to my A/C failing just after the heat dome.

To be fair, I suspect my sister was more worried about the teacher than my niece, seeing as this was an "writing in English as a foreign language" class assignment.

My niece interviewing me for a hw assignment: What is your favorite number?

Me: Well,...

My sister: A number a second grader understands 😒

Me: ...ok, 42

Overall this is my plan going forward for most of the turf grass, but doesn't help with invasive continually encroaching from neighboring yards or the bulb/tuber non-natives.

Shout-out to Earth Sangha, the Northern Virginia non-profit I get most of my natives from.
June 24, 2025 at 10:02 PM
Everything I have added is native, and I am lucky to have both good info resources and an amazing local non-profit that propagates and sells local ecotype natives. The biggest issue is removing non-native/invasive plants from previous owners (liriope, English ivy, elephant ear).

Have you read the Lost Fleet series by Jack Campbell? Space naval officer is retrieved from a cryo-escape pod to discover it's been longer than he expected and he's regarded as a hero.

I am Anger/Sadsad/Desper, mainly because Desper is the only one in that sector I can figure out how to type.

How dare you recycle that lovely box?

The Eliminator feeder from Wild Birds Unlimited is the closest thing I've found to squirrel proof. It is spendy, but has a good warranty and you can buy replacement parts.

And to be clear, that "better zoom lens" new is about the same price as a small car new. Sobs photographer. 😭

You looked exactly as amazing in your wedding photos as you were at your wedding.

Billy the Kidden Rescue is the name and spelling to search for, have family who have adopted from them.
