New data highlight concerning trends among young Americans and sudden cardiac death. Our goal should be that every cardiac arrest is vigorously met with the tools needed to save a life—for athletes and urban and rural communities alike.

An explanation is where the mind goes to rest.

We thought we could explain most cardiac arrests in athletes. But 2 decades of study tell a complex story—autopsy-negative cases w/ structurally normal hearts now dominate. We have more questions.
