Archaeologist and Doctoral Researcher
Today I am tired and have a sick child home, so thinking and writing are mostly out of the question. Having a cup of tea now, and happily reading the new number of Arkeologia Nyt -magazine with several interesting articles and also a short story about the Museology course I taught during the winter.

Today I found especially inspiring Sam Bennett’s talk on teaching teenagers from New York how to mend clothes - and how this kind of slow craft practise was both difficult and important to young people living in a fast moving world.

One of the highlights of the conference was Timo Rissanen’s talk on Australian leather title sashes, as it illustrated perfectly how certain aspects of our culture are not researched or recorded, if they are used in subcultures that are considered marginal.

Great two days of #artefacta2025 conference are drawing up close. The keynote ending the day is given by anthropologist Daniel Miller online, as the agency of things was demonstrated to him with the misplacement of his passport. The last row of the seminar room is engaged in craft activities.

This week, I have mostly been weaving. It is a hobby, but also part of the way how I build understanding of archaelogical textiles I study. This fabric is for the socks of the #ravattuladress, #ancientcostume from late #ironage Finland.

Do you know the feeling when you just can’t get something out of your mind without actually doing ot? Today I spent hours looking at something that I am not even researching on, at least not yet 🫣😅
