Gregg Popovich, like me, was born & raised in northwest Indiana. I graduated from the same high school as him as well. Two sources of pride for me considering the substance & character of the man. For all the accolades he earned as a coach, he is an even better person.
With Gregg Popovich's retirement, the game has lost what many of his peers consider one of — if not the — greatest coach in NBA history.
He found success with a fiery and direct approach, but not without unwavering compassion and care.
