for me the best place is whatever you use for a melody or some kind of harmonic base (me personally synths and samples are great and that's what i mostly gravitate towards), but sometimes drums can be a great base to any song you make too, and i like to start with either of the two when i make music

not to mention im generally depressed half of the time and it doesn't feel good to mentally bring people down to my level
