I've only been submitting short stories since 2022 and it was better than, yes! Unfortunately it took me a little while to grow my skills, but by then most windows were so much smaller and more sporadic. It's rough right now while I wait to see how the Asimov's and Analog contracts shake out.

<thumps cane a few times>

Let's talk about what the process of submitting short fiction used to look like, shall we? And about what it looks like now.

What a wild and wonderful fever dream! How strange to get through an entire Monday without any stories to workshop, or anyone critiquing mine.
Meet our 2025 Clarion Writers’ Workshop graduates! They’re pictured with their instructors, @jedediahberry.com and GennaRose Nethercott, who led the final two weeks.

It has been an unforgettable summer, and we’re so proud to call this class Clarion alumni!

I just sent this out.

The Jewish people have moral frameworks for this moment.

It is a choice not to heed them.

Please let us meet this moment, let us see the shattered Temple around us, right now, and our responsibility to it.

The way that I was raised, being Jewish meant believing that every human life was sacred; to save a single human life meant saving all of humanity. That no law or ritual was more important than saving a single human life.

It's unfathomable that any Jew can accept what Israel is doing in Gaza.

Just had my heart stomped on by @theferocity.bsky.social 's memoir, How We Fight For Our Lives. It's already a treat to listen to Saeed read poems to us every week on Vibe Check podcast, so I knew his own writing would be beautiful.

I just found out yesterday that this podcast exists, and it's wild to hear people talk about me! Thankfully the hosts said nice things and I enjoyed listening to them recap the full week of games I got to see play out twice. Turns out we have the same taste in great anecdotes.
Week of June 9: Blubbering Up the Pups w/ @louispeitzman.bsky.social. Louis is back to fill in for a vacationing John and him and Emily discuss Matt Massie's enjoyable run, Jejson Jennings, and one of the more insane clues in recent memory.

@johngreensbluesky.bsky.social Thank you for your crash course US world history series! I watched tons of your videos to prepare for Jeopardy! (or at least try not to look silly on national TV). We'll see if it worked during tomorrow's episode...

At this point, being on #Jeopardy! still feels like a fever dream, but they sent me pictures that prove I was probably there. See how I did on Monday, June 9!

I'm so excited to be part of this cohort this summer!!! Back in January, after a few years of rejections from Clarion, I wasn't even sure it was worth applying anymore. It still feels surreal that I'll get to spend 6 weeks honing my craft alongside 17 other talented writers!
We are so excited to announce our talented cohort of writers for the 2025 Clarion Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers’ Workshop. Congratulations to these incredible writers! We cannot wait to meet you all in San Diego!
