Republicans, including Trump, wanted a shutdown to blame Democrats, push conservative policies, weaken federal programs, and operate with less oversight. It could have helped dismantle agencies and advance budget cuts faster. The CR kept the gov running, avoiding GOP leverage.

The alternative to voting against the CR meant a shutdown, which could have empowered DOGE and Elon Musk, to accelerate cuts to federal agencies. Schumer warned it would let Trump and Musk “shift into overdrive,” speeding up the destruction of vital government services.

What would have happened if the democrats did nothing and let the government shut down. Don’t you think that would have given Trump and the republicans even more free rein during the shut down? I would have been just as damaging if not more so.

The Republicans intentionally put the Dems between a rock and a hard place hoping to divide and distract the democrats even more than they are. Unfortunately it’s working. Do not let them win. This whole situation was a damned if you do and damned if you don’t situation!
