I started katakana actually a few years ago but it was only because I wanted to replicate the Manga style of sounds. And yeah its weird its all but taken over my art and ive produced more art than I have ever before. Its been a long time coming.

I am sure a traditionalist might disagree. My friend who’s a Sumi-e teacher says it’s good so I’m confident about it. Although it’s one of those sacred things.

It’s all acrylic on rice paper. Been getting really involved with it lately, even reading up on Shodo which is a mediative art of writing calligraphy. Mine now doesn’t follow any true style or discipline, but the calligraphy looks nice. It’s said to be very difficult, I have an easy time with it.

Relatively speaking, maybe only a few months. I started Gyotaku about a year ago but didn’t quite evolve it until a few months later. When I started to press the fish against paper, I began to paint out my own kanji and that’s when it started. Now I think I do more kanji than fish pressing.
