It takes a lot to get this early-to-bed introvert out on a Sunday night, but the 3rd music show in 6 days on the keep-Jennifer-sane-tour was 1000% worth it.

I’m buoyed by what I’ve seen today. Take note. Take heart. Stay vigilant and hopeful.

The fact that members of Congress, elected by the American people to SERVE the American people, continue to receive paychecks during a shutdown, while their staff & thousands of federal employees worry how to make next month’s rent or mortgage is unconscionable. This is not leadership.

Most days of late I hide from engaging in political conversations and settle for listening passively to smart and funny podcasts like The Bulwark. But some days, I lean in, and I’m Leaning ALL THE WAY in tonight. @sarahlongwell25.bsky.social @timmiller.bsky.social @jvl.bsky.social

Someone who just lost their job in the government purge was cleaning out his desk today and texted me a picture of the many thank you notes he's received from students and me over the years. Said it brought him a smile on a crappy day. Never underestimate the lasting power of a thank you note.

This weekend I said goodbye to a colleague & friend gone too soon, spent time catching up w/ coworkers & friends, had dinner w/my parents & mentors, & got a tour of NCSU & sorority house by my niece. Life is short. Life is good even when it’s daunting. Hug your friends & family. My cup runneth over.

“Don’t you know what that is? It’s spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you’ve got it, you want—oh, you don’t quite know what it is you DO want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!”

Once upon a time …

Single girl decides to treat herself to dinner at her favorite neighborhood restaurant/bar.

Creepy guy beside her reads single girl’s Kindle over her ahoulder and starts asking questions about the plot.

Single girl remembers why she’s single.

The end.

I want to say “this is not who we are.” But apparently this IS who we are. And grief is an appropriate response.

Last Sunday I attended my last performance at the Kennedy Center for at least the next 4 years. Gut wrenching and infuriating.
