The whole notion, as applied to our two countries, is ludicrous.
Canada and the United States are at peace for reasons that have nothing whatever to do with our mutual military readiness. We are at peace because of the vast fund of compatible beliefs, common principles, and shared ideals.

.. divided by an unguarded frontier of thousands of miles, and there is not a remotest set of circumstances, in any imaginable time frame of the future, in which our two nations would wage war on one another.It is so unthinkable an idea as to be totally absurd. But why is that so?
