Sigh.

So the Pyle is... not great. I mean, it was $30 so I wasn't expecting magic, but it produces a pretty noticeable 60 db level of noise.

What's really amazing is that there doesn't seem to be anywhere you can go look at low end amps. I don't need to spend $1000 to drive two speakers from a […]

Considering this administrations history of somewhat fickle and arbitrary views of both federal workers and the value of their contributions (as well as the mandates that they toe the administration's line regardless of it's merit), I would not recommend any tech worker consider taking these […]

Also how did we manage to land the "switch to passkeys" messaging ... but somehow miss the "and you absolutely must let users add more than one, with clear UX" bit?

Honestly, my only real complaint with the Saratoga Urban Village thing is the name. It's near Saratoga the same way as #sanjose is near San Francisco.

Bet there's a whole bunch of folks that stomp their feet and say how it will ruin their view of... I dunno... Napa.

Probably more me venting to the world, but in light of various things of late, I wrote up a post about not trusting those tech companies that really, really, really want you to just trust them.

( _tldr: don't_ )

To every artist out there that does stickers: I love you.

I know it can be a pain to find a good vendor and keep track of inventory and whatnot - but it makes your art very accessible for folks who might not be able to afford prints or commissions, and I really appreciate that.

I also just […]

It's always sad reading about someone being forcibly excommunicated from their techno-religion.

Thus, why I may use services from big companies, I NEVER trust them to be the sole keeper or guardian. It's why I may have a Microsoft computer in the house, but it's rarely used or relied on.

I […]

… so Mr. Jekyll has decided to take up Scrabble to surpass him.

He’s doing well with words like “food” and “treat” but we’re having difficulties explaining QI and XU.

Any suggestions?

I am actually impressed by the sandwiches at 7-11 now.
At least the Southwest Turkey & the Tuna ones.

Guess it’s the new owners.

Huh. Just chatted in person with someone who's been on #mastodon for a while, now, who honestly thought that all the Mastodon domains were run by Mastodon. And having a different domain was, like, just a vanity thing to look cool. It only came up because they were complaining about an issue they […]

Just because it's being passed around a lot: NO, data centers in space do NOT benefit from space being cold. Space is cold in the formal sense we use to define temperature. But it is very bad at cooling. What would you rather have to cool hot metal: a lukewarm water tub or a giant cold atmosphere?

I ant to note that I have used LLMs in the past and found them useful.

I used them to take my writing and make it bland and generic so that it could not be easily traced back to me.

I didn’t use them to improve my writing.

I used them to make it worse.

They were quite good at it.
