I shared the publication of my recent article yesterday. That article grew out of my chapter in this book, The Business of Incarceration. It's been out for a while, but we only just received the book itself. Holding the physical copy of a real book out in the world is always a mighty thing.

"... yelling threateningly..."

Read up on Bull Connor and the tactics and justifications for violent police escalation against nonviolent protests, and remember the lessons and outcomes when they inevitably go too far.

The inaugural symposium of the Fred Gray Institute for Human and Civil Rights in Montgomery - dialogue moving to action. Mr. Gray said, "So what are you going to do?" I know the courageous souls in this room today will be at work tomorrow to lift up this nation in love and justice.

I can't begin to describe this night, opening the first Fred Gray Institute symposium - Mr. Fred Gray, Mr. Bryan Stevenson, and more friends and family from all across our lives in one holy room. This was a landmark event and the richest privilege to bear witness to it. Tomorrow the work continues.

The sun rises on our neighborhood. This pic from a neighbor is from a similar angle as the scary one from last night.

Long day in Malibu. We remain safely off campus. #FranklinFire returned to Pepperdine tonight from a different angle & burned through the part of campus where our neighborhood is. Pepp reports no structures suffered significant damage. Heroic firefighters have saved our homes again. (A neighbor's 📷)
