One of my smoky quartz illustrated. Dug from the bitterroot mountains.

The reason smoky quartz is so dark is that it gets radiated from the earth. The more dark and opaque a smoky gets, the less it’s been exposed.

With all the absolute insanity in the world, I continue to paint and contribute to the city of Boise. This was sponsored by PFCU and created for Idaho River Sports. I had a blast and met several organizers like Idaho Rivers United.

Hire me if you want to combat climate change. Whenever I install a mural, a storm inevitably rolls in whether we are in a dry season or not. #murals #artprocess

One of my favorite minerals are the Bunkerhill Pyromorphites. Most pyromorphites range from olive to granny smith apple green, but the Jersey lvl 9 vein of pyromorphites are bright orange due to trace amounts of arsenic mixed in with these lead chlorophosphate crystals. #Sciart #Idaho

“African florals and birds”

Finished up this mural for the client this past Sunday. One and a half week install time for a new build.

Assisted by Eva Streicher and Indigo B-C. #murals #sciart

Mural progress of our 12x15’ wall. Slightly #sciart , but not really since we’re adding plants that the client enjoys. #mural

I absolutely love how lighting and environment shifts mural work. 14’x88’ River Otters and Balsamroot in deep snow.

Here’s some cool new hematite amethyst material coming out of a brand new spot in NA.

The geodes themselves are a couple hundred pounds and are lined with lemon yellow agate and are incased in limestone. They are from a very remote corner of main land America, one that has few visitors.

They are fantastic animals to watch. There’s an area I rockhound about an 1hr 20min away from Boise that always has herds in November and December. I usually bring some buckwheat tea and watch them funnel through the canyon. Great area to find opals as well.

These guys just live rent free running through my head. There's nothing like stumbling across a whole herd of them in winter.

One of the illustrations created for an interpretive panel for the USFS. (I did a bunch of native bush florals as well)

This was commissioned to show the non native Spruce root system compared to the native Larch's system at a camp ground where several old growth spruces were felled.

I miss doing en plein air painting so much but I just don’t have the time to dedicate to it anymore. These were some of my last sketchbook paintings that I’ve done circa 2018 or so at the boise zoo.

One of my favorite interpretive panels I’ve ever worked on! I love doing above/under scenes. #sciart

(1 of 2) illustrated plate of smoky quartz specimens from Idaho in my collection. I dug a couple of these myself and the rest were bought from independent rockhounds. These are all from the Sawtooth Batholith and dug mostly in the Trinities.

As my career has really solidified, my passion has morphed into becoming an inaturalist freak with my gardening and rockhounding. I found this European praying mantis sunbathing on my Gaillardia pulchella this morning.

Love seeing goldfinches and other birds in the garden!

With the weather changing, it's been a blast on reflecting on all of the rockhounding I've done this summer. This is a quartz location on a private claim out in the Owyhees (Idaho and Oregon Border). I hauled out about a 55 liter bag full of this stuff!

Great idea on the art share.

My name is Jay Rasgorshek and I am a scientific illustrator who does murals in the summer! I love creating playful and light public art that educates the public about the animals and plants that live in the neighborhood.

Forgot to post my Albertson's project that my team and I completed this past spring (April 8th). I felt honored to contribute to the company's Recipe for Change and paint my favorite Boise River Bird. As always, I rely on my team to bring the vision of the mural to life. They're so fantastic!
