Also, every real Trek fan knows Genesis is not a name to choose for your huge scientific project… it may also have other meanings, in ancient religious doctrines, but I don’t care about such obscure ideologies

I moved into this one last year, hopefully I stay here for a few more. It was a lot of effort in cleaning, and removing everything that was here previously.

Here’s my office. I’ve tried to fill it with art and tools for collaborative idea building (especially my chalkboard!). I’m going to be changing the furniture some next term to make it even better I hope!

Not all our spaces feel like this. I’ve tried extremely hard to develop my office, and will continue to put my own time and money into it.
🧪🔭 friends, give me some hope here. Show me the professional spaces that bring you joy, support creativity, build community!!

Academics IMO tend to be pack rats. We don’t usually have budgets for decoration or furniture, so we use the beat furniture from 30yrs ago. Our rooms develop a patina of generational neglect, instead of well worn comfort.

Part of the difference is of course practical. They are artists who build things! But their Studios feel alive, dense, lived in, shared.

Many of our spaces are cold, open, run down or dirty, or temporary… they feel like places to discuss work, not collaborate on it

The traditional meal is a terrible menu when done expertly, is universally poorly executed at home, by people who are stressed, at a massively inconvenient time of year.

One company is pitching sunlight as a service while the other is calling for shade… tell me these aren’t the same startup
