Why do so many restaurants only take cash, and why are so many card machines ‘broken’?
The cost of credit card transactions to retailers is 0.3% and 0.2% for debit (+ machine fees) so It works out cheaper than accepting cash when all costs are included.

Until I saw the reports at the weekend, I had never realised that Hamas had kidnapped so many young Children.
Just from a mental health perspective, this will cause a lifetime of trauma and pain that will be triggered once more when they have children themselves.

If we ever ponder the monetary cost of climate change, look no further than the 2021 floods of the Ahr Valley in Germany. Deutsch Bahn will spend €1.3bn on a five year reconstruction of 3 railway lines. Until then replacement buses operate on closed stretches.

Hidden in the hills around the Ahr valley was a strategic rail tunnel linking coal and iron areas. Construction was started prior to WW1 and stopped in WW2. Close to Bonn, they were turned them into a nuclear bunker to house the government in times of war.

Signal replacement ongoing on the AhrtalBahn rail route. The route was destroyed in the 2021 flood. As part of the rebuilding, the signalling is being replaced. 11 bridges and 13km of track will follow.
