J.P.'s place for blathering on about my crochet adventures. I learned crochet as a little girl from library books. I'm not at all an expert but love traditional and Tunisian crochet. More at jpwcrochets.com
Smaller size little hot pocket, with beads this time. I've no idea what possessed me to buy beads.

A few months ago, I ordered a metal Tunisian crochet hook set from AliExpress and liked them a lot. But buying stuff from China is totally different value proposition now. I bought these hooks from Amazon that check all the same boxes.

Ever make something but didn't really pay attention to what you were doing but it came out better than expected and you wanted to make another one but now you have to figure out what you did? That's where I am today. 🧶#crochet

It makes me so happy when I buy two kinds of yarn online to make a hat and they're so well matched.

I bought one of these spinning yarn holders a while ago and finally tried it out yesterday. It worked better when I removed the spindle from the magnet and let it sit on the base. Otherwise, there was way too much spin. Maybe the heaviness of the yarn matters; I was using a tiny sport weight cotton.

I finally pushed aside my deep hatred for all things Meta and created an Instagram account for crochet, and I see now why people have been complaining for years about the app shoving everything in your face but the people you follow. Anyway, it's www.instagram.com/jpwcrochetss...

I like combining different yarn to make simple things with a unique look, but sometimes it doesn't always turn out as I expected. After making several hats with different types of straw-like yarn, I rambled on a bit about some things I learned on video.

Straw Hat Adventures
I have been working on making wide-brim sun hats and narrow-brim fedoras using Tunisian simple stitch (I like it for hats because it has a nice woven look) for several weeks now. I have experimente…

I've done so many Tunisian crochet projects in the round with 2-4 balls of yarn recently that I almost lost my mind when I remembered I needed only one ball of yarn to make a simple one-color skinny scarf. ☺️🧶 #crochet

The colors on this one kinda remind me of Van Gogh's The Starry Night. #crochet #TunisianCrochet 🧶

I have been trying to perfect my approach to a Tunisian crochet fedora. Each one has had major to minor issues, but I think one more attempt after this one and I might have something repeatable I like. #crochet #TunisianCrochet 🧶

Hooray! I got my very first order from @lolabeanyarnco.com today. No clue what I'll make with it yet, but it will be soft and lovely because this yarn is very niiiice. #crochet 🧶

I've been experimenting with raffia and yarn combos for colorful and fun summer hats but had been struggling with sealing off the stiff plastic hat wire. Metal crimp tubes seem to work better than heat shrink. I finally have a circle with no bend at the seal. #crochet #TunisianCrochet 🧶

I'm continuing my explorations in hat making. This is my 2nd hat with this stiff plastic millinery wire. I hate dealing with the wire, but I love the brims that can be created with it. So churchy. In fact, I wore the 1st hat to a church banquet this past weekend. #crochet #Tunisiancrochet 🧶

Playing around with stitches this weekend, I inadvertently found a way to edge Tunisian crochet with "regular" crochet but kinda looks like Tunisian crochet. This was also my first time using yarn from @sisterananseyarn.bsky.social. I started with minis out of fear of failure. 🙂 #crochet 🧶

I'm almost where I want to be with making fedora hats. One more attempt and I think I'll have a repeatable pattern, at least for this Rewind yarn. #crochet 🧶

I bought those metal Tunisian hooks from AliExpress that everyone was talking about 2 years ago (so I'm a little late to the party but I didn't know about Tunisian crochet back then). I recorded my unboxing and initial experience. #crochet 🧶
