Still studying math, philosophy and art, just trying to figure it out.
For decades now, my brother’s objection to CFL/Argos has been high player turnover. I can’t dispute that point. Last season Wynton McManis was the face of the franchise—the halftime tv interview regular, I loved watching him play football —this season unsigned.

Adarius Pickett is back too! I missed his presence (and his twitter posts.)

Thanks for this article (and Taylor Elgersma’s as well.) As Taylor points out, it’s very disappointing to see Coach Faulds head down the 401 to Western in particular. Maybe your last paragraph on the dollars is spot on, time will tell. Tuffy Knight and Rich Newbrough are even greater than we knew.

I appreciate Steve’s Argos writings. In 50 yrs, this column could be retrofitted for Blue Jays game 7 : for young fans (and Blue Jays players as well.) Young fans in love with a team for the first time, losing the game inexplicably, yet not the feeling for the team. Losing meaning more than winning.

What a team. What a history! For me, the Blue Jays recent game 7 loss took me back to that Grey Cup loss as a fan comparable. (An aside, I think Leo Cahill should be in Hall of Fame in the same manner as Paul Henderson should be. Their statistics may fall short but their historical record does not.)

Joe Theismann is a real talker so perhaps not everything is quite absolute: in the documentary The Greatest Team That Never Won, he says something like, “when football season rolls around, ‘71 Argos are the team I think about most.” I think he meant it, he understands the depth of CFL history.

CFL history is extraordinary, second to none, and one of the league’s strengths. Waayyy more interesting and colourful than most folks realize. For those that doubt the intensity of the league and players, just look up Joe Kapp and Angelo Mosca grudge to understand how deep the history runs.

I thought the Grey Cup was a fine football game. I don’t expect anything more from football than what was on display in Winnipeg, except maybe a little less video review interference.

when the the real reason is something else That is, increase badly needed revenue through expansion, games in Europe, gambling, however. The problems the league has is more off-field than on-field, in my opinion. Regardless, thanks for Xs and Argos, love it !!

I not convinced any of the rule changes will “make the game more entertaining.” As described in your podcast, it may be more amenable to American football falls and soccer stadiums, and perhaps in-game gambling as well. I wonder if the backlash is caused by the league saying “more entertaining” /2

Here is my CFL “significant change” guess: instead of yards, the standard measure will be metres! “We’ll make this game truly Canadian.”
