I think the new confessions ins't just his best, it's one of THE best. Remarkable novel that absolutely changed me as both a reader and a (would be) writer.

This album is brilliant. Feels like there's some real invention occurring on it.

But, yes, their best song is Dripping Tap—it's perfect (best live version? maybe www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dth3...). I'm off to Athens to a) do some work-based research but ALSO b) watch them three times on the top of a mountain this week, and I am unbearably excited.

After that, it's Nonagon, probably--fuzzy, weird, endlessly fascinating. Then Petrodragonic Apocalypse, which I think is the best metal album of the decade so far, except it's not listened to by metal people because of whatever reason.

OKAY, this is EASY. I think their best all-round album is Ice, Death etc: it's varied, it's jammy, it's got melodies for days, and just hits all the notes--one of those "greatest hits that not the actual greatest hits" sort of albums.
